Following two years of global touring, research & development, Paul Chin launches his latest venture, Sanzuwu Group: a record label designed to cultivate a more harmonious relationship between artists, craftsmanship, and community. To commemorate the launch of the label, Sanzuwu Group presents Volume 1: Sanzuwu, a compilation featuring the best in alternative hip-hop and electronic music.
This debut compilation sees founding artists Paul Chin, Go Yama, and other friends of the label ring in the Year of the Snake with seven tracks spanning the stylistic gamut, from trip-hop to footwork, downtempo to IDM.
The compilation kicks off with offerings by label chief Paul Chin and footwork explorer Hood Joplin delivering an extra lucky pair of uptempo club weapons.
Chin pays homage to a long-forgotten legend of late night Chinatown eats with Lucky Red, channeling after-hours energy through Lunar New Year celebrations by pairing of frenetic jungle breaks with warped guzheng.
Hood Joplin further contributes to the story of Volume 1 with Before Midnight, a moody footwork banger that meets listeners slightly earlier in their night out. Hard-hitting drums drive against and dreamy pads and euphoric leads, locking ravers into a groove as the clock approaches the witching hour.
The rest of the compilation rounds out the vibes by calling in assists from Chin's contemporaries Go Yama, and Korea Town Acid; veteran of the scene Fresh Kils; and next gen producers Saltyyyy V, and dex digi. This all-star cast of artists bands together to present a wide-ranging selection of beats from some of the most adventurous producers in the game, showcasing an optimistic future for Sanzuwu Group, and lovers of music cultivated with purpose.
