Paul Chin wrapped up his Asia Tour a month ago, but we still have remnants of the adventure to share! Today brings us a video for a new record he's been performing on tour, 我很好 FREESTYLE.

A bonus product of the PROFESSIONAL FRIEND era, 我很好 (wǒ hěn hǎo; Mandarin: I'm fine) depicts Paul's therapist (voiced by Maia Muttoo) commending him on his progress, and re-assuring him that he has what he needs to process any further trauma of friendship breakups. When asked if he has any further thoughts on the matter, he launches into an 80-bar summary of his grievances, frustrations, and self-reflections gleaned over the period of his life that inspired the project.

Disaffected lines like "They cast me in their drama; wish they’d write me out of it" and "I was already a great artist; that just made me a better hater" morph into more optimistic bars by the climax of the track – "I’m on a generational run now, dim sum now with my ones, xiu mai coming out by the ton now", signalling Paul's perspective on the long arc of his bygone relationships. A demonstration of the freestyle's thesis statement – I was hurt, I was weary, but now I'm past it.

The video, entirely produced by Paul himself (with additional camera work by Emiru Sawa), was shot in Toyooka the night before his show at Todohyo. He briefly teased it in the third episode of his tour vlogs, so now you can see the final result! And, as always, Freeza Chin comes through on the mix & master.

Artists are often told to "get in the booth" when they need to lay out their interpersonal woes, but Paul might be the first to apply that to one of Japan's iconic NTT phone booths.
