For Black Friday, help us raise some funds for Jamaica hurricane relief!

Hi friends! The year's coming to a close, and it's been a truly eventful one – for better and for worse. We're incredibly thankful for all the support that you've shown to this first year of projects from Sanzuwu Group, but this Black Friday we don't want to push you to buy our stuff right now. Instead, we'd actually appreciate it if you'd help us raise some funds for recovery efforts in Jamaica, following the destruction from Hurricane Melissa, the most powerful storm to ever hit the island.

On December 10th, we're hosting a relief bashment (think benefit concert, only more tropical) at It's Ok* Studios in Toronto. We have donations from family and friends to bring you patties (beef, chicken, and vegan) from George's Tastee, and homemade ginger beer and sorrel from Grand Blue Drinks.

You can buy a ticket to come through, or just contribute a donation even if you're not able to make it in person. But if you CAN make it, you're in for a treat! In addition to the cheapest, most delicious patties you'll find anywhere in the city, and incredible beverages, we also have music from DJ Mensa, Sydanie, and myself (with a special guest appearance from Kadhja Bonet)! All proceeds will be sent to Jamaica's Office of Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Management.

On a personal note, this is a particularly meaningful cause to me as the parish hit hardest by Melissa was St. Elizabeth, where my mom and her whole family are from. The entire capital of Black River has been completely reduced to rubble. And yet, people like my uncle who have lost so much have gotten right to work, picking up the pieces, and doing what they can to take care of each other. I hope we can also band together, wherever we are to give a little to care for our brothers and sisters on the island!
